BOVEY CASTLE:
THE ALL-YEAR ROUND COUNTRY ESCAPE

Bovey Castle sits in the heart of Dartmoor within its own estate and offers a championship golf course, 60 rooms and 22 three-story country lodges, offering all its guests the best that the hospitality industry has to offer along with its own unique adventures only offered at Bovey Castle.

Guests will be impressed by its rich history, wonderful architecture, amazing facilities and exemplary staff that are more commonly found in the best hospitality venues within London. Bovey Castle allows each guest to feel as though they are coming home to their own country estate or club, the atmosphere is sublime, décor exquisite and above all, you are made to feel extremely welcome. It is as if you have been transported back to a time to country gentleman and ladies of leisure when arriving at Bovey.

That feeling is no surprise as the history of Bovey Castle is entwinned with that of W H Smith. In 1890 William Henry Smith, who later become Viscount Hambleden purchased the then 5,000 acres of land from the Earl of Devon for £103,000, a vast sum of money back in those days.

It was Henry’s son Frederick who built the Manor house known as Bovey Castle today and many of its original features stay the same to this day such its Jacobean style staircases, plaster ceilings and wonderful great hall that is now incorporated into the hotel, offering a unique experience that really has to been seen to be believed. After the passing of W H Smith the estate was sold off and Great Western Railways purchased the manor house and 275 acres of land and opened it up to the public in 1930 as a luxury golf resort.

Today, Bovey has not lost its way in the world offering the best hospitality anyone could ask for whilst keeping its unique history alive by maintaining its original features and incorporating the modern way in which we all like to live our lives today. Having had the pleasure to stay and experience Bovey Castle for ourselves I can say without a shadow of doubt that Bovey Castle is a must visit hotel for anyone who enjoys the outdoors, the countryside and the best service anyone could experience.

Having had the pleasure to stay and experience Bovey Castle for ourselves I can say without a shadow of doubt that Bovey Castle is a must visit hotel for anyone who enjoys the outdoors, the countryside and the best service anyone could experience.

Bovey is still a working estate and utilises its surroundings to offer unique experiences for its guests. Have you ever fancied taking up or trying clay pigeon shooting? Bovey can arrange it with their own shooting grounds on the estate. Fancy feeding baby deer and exploring the estates deer park? Why not spend the morning doing it. The list of these wonderful activities is endless and features some of the most unique experiences found only at Bovey Castle.

These experiences are made for you to learn more about your surroundings and the countryside, which help you feel part of the rich history at Bovey Castle, whilst creating fond memories to cherish for a lifetime.

Having had the pleasure of experiencing breakfast, lunch and dinner along with the spa facilities and treatments I can say that the whole experience was simply breath taking. Lunch and dinner are currently being served in the ultra-modern Brasserie that offers exceptional fine dining and atmosphere, so you can enjoy a romantic meal for two, a special family occasion or simply somewhere to sit and enjoy a nice bottle of wine. This can be done by its fantastic furnishings and layout, tables designed for various numbers of guests are positioned all around the floorplan, whilst a superb fire and half-moon sofas sit within the centre to offer those wanting a light snack and refreshment or place to sit and relax by a roaring fire.

Another fine dining option at Bovey Castle is choosing the tasting menu in their Tasting Room. An immersive experience creatively showcases the best seasonal and local produce. Their knowledgeable team will be on hand to provide you with professional but non-obtrusive service whilst enjoying cutting edge refined dishes dreamed up by the talented Executive Head Chef, Mark Budd.

The Tasting Room is an exclusive concept at Bovey Castle, for a fantastic evening of sophisticated dining. The 7-course tasting menu is specially created with each season’s fresh local produce and with a hand-picked selection of fine wines to complement each course organised by the hotel’s head Sommelier.

For the perfect celebration or special occasion, we would highly recommend Bovey Castle to anyone wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life and escape on a magical country adventure or luxurious golf weekend.
